Aluminium Restrained Range
Designed specifically for use in Non-Ex operations, including metalliferous and open-cut mining, as well as pumping and tunnelling projects, KonNx Africa’s Aluminium Restrained Range is a lightweight and cost-effective alternative to stainless steel plugs and sockets.
For easy identification, products within this range have been given a very distinctive look. Painted in a stark, bold white to distinguish them as Non-Ex products, coloured stripes have been used to visually determine their voltage rating. Offering customers further clarity and peace of mind when identifying each product, ‘Non-Ex’ labels and laser marks on components have also been added.
Plugs and sockets in this range include the:
- AES (Aluminium Extra Small) – available in 660V and 1100V, the presence or absence of a black stripe identifies if the plug or socket is 60A or 90A;
- AS (Aluminium Small) – available in 660V and 1100V at 150A; and
- AL (Aluminium Large) – available in 660V, 1100V and 3300V, the presence or absence of a white stripe identifies if the plug or socket is 300A or 425A.
AS and AL products are manufactured with a stainless steel body and an aluminium cage, maintaining the durability of their stainless steel counterparts.
By using aluminium and stainless steel in our AES, AS and AL plugs and sockets, this restrained range is lighter than our purely stainless steel products, with:
- AES plugs weighing in at 2.04kg and sockets at 2.64kg;
- AS plugs weighing in at 3.74kg and sockets at 4kg; and
- AL plugs weighing in at 7.96kg and sockets at 6.34kg.
In comparison, PSZA plugs are 4.1kg with PSZA sockets weighing in at 7.9kg, while our PLZA plugs are 9kg and our PLZA sockets weigh 10.7kg.
Using aluminium as an alternative to stainless steel in the manufacturing process has also resulted in reduced production costs, allowing us to pass these cost reductions on to the Non-Ex industry.
While AES sockets are only available with the Jack-In Release option, AS and AL sockets are available in all three release options: Jack-In, Quick, and Ratchet. All three sockets can also be supplied as a Receptacle Gland Bracket (RGB).
Features of the products in this range include full phase to phase segregation with earth, easy termination, single piece contacts and full solid earth connectivity throughout. The easy to remove outer body of these products also enables easier maintenance and ensures continued reliability. Additionally, these products can also be purchased with a durable silicon cover for the plugs and an O-ring sealed bung for the sockets.
